Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. GOBHI is committed to promoting the well-being of all Eastern Oregonians, including Latino/a/x individuals who enrich our communities. In our 12-county GOBHI/EOCCO service area, 2021 member enrollment included 27.1% people of Hispanic/Latin/a/x background. We encourage you to celebrate the contributions of Latina/os in Oregon’s behavioral health, business, science, service and food industries, the arts, and countless other fields.
We encourage you to take this time to visit learning resources and events that highlight the rich history and present day contribution of Latino/a/x residents in the United States.
Here are two examples:
The National Museum of the American Latino has several virtual exhibits, films, etc. available that highlight the diversity of the Latino/a/x experience throughout history: https://latino.si.edu/learn/teaching-and-learning-resources/hispanic-heritage-month-resources
The Library of Congress shares an array of art and event resources on its website each year. Please take a moment to visit this informative and thought-provoking collection: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/exhibits-and-collections/
